TÔZAI!... literally : from East to West!...
It is at Bunraku and at Kabuki, the call announcing the opening of the curtain which will reveal the action.
We are focussing on the tipping moment before the action starts : this bascule to both what we expect and what we don't know ; this bascule from the warm-up, before performing, before the ritual, before the event itself...
For this project, Jocelyn Cottencin develops a monumental curtain that goes from the top of the stage to cover the floor of the entire plateau. He becomes in turn, curtain, forest, river, monsters, etc.
TOZAI!...
TÔZAI!... littéralement : d'Est en Ouest !
C'est, au bunraku et au Kabuki, l'appel annonçant l'ouverture du rideau qui dévoilera l'action.
TÔZAI!…, la pièce, s'intéresse précisément au moment de bascule précédant l'action ;
cette bascule à la fois vers ce que l'on attend et ce qu'on ne sait pas ;
cette bascule dès l'échauffement, avant le jeu, avant le rituel, avant l'événement...
Pour ce projet, Jocelyn Cottencin élabore un rideau monumental qui part du haut de la scène pour recouvrir le sol du plateau tout entier. Il devient tour à tour, rideau, forêt, rivière, monstres, etc.
